Google Sheets is a powerful tool that allows you to create spreadsheets and work with data more easily. One thing it doesn’t allow, however, is adding music to the document. But don’t worry — we’ve got your back on this one! In this article, we’ll show you how to add an MP3 file to a Google Sheet so that you can listen to it while working on other tasks.
Click the File menu.
- Click the File menu.
- You can also click the file menu in the top left corner of Google Sheets.
- Or, click “Open” on the bottom right side of your screen and select MP3 from the dropdown list that appears (or double-click on MP3).
Select Open.
In the window that appears, click on Open.
Google Sheets will display a small dialog box asking you to select the format in which you want your audio file to be imported into your spreadsheet. Select MP3, then click OK.
Click Files to open a file browser.
- Click the File menu in Google Sheets.
- Select Open, then Files to open a file browser window where you can select your MP3 file from your computer’s hard drive or network storage device (such as a USB flash drive).
- Click on your MP3 file button when prompted to open it in Google Sheets and select Open again when asked about formatting and where to place the audio file in your spreadsheet
Click on the file button to open your MP3 file.
To play an MP3 file, click on the file button. You will see a pop-up window that allows you to select your MP3 file from Google Drive or another location.
Select the file and then click “open.” When prompted, select “open” again so that Google Sheets can access this particular file type for playing purposes (this step may not be necessary).
Select “Open” when prompted.
- Click “Open” in the pop-up window.
- Choose the file you want to open, then click OK or Open. The audio file will be added to your spreadsheet and will play automatically when it loads (if you don’t want it playing automatically, see below).
Select “Open” again when asked about formatting and where to place the audio file in your spreadsheet.
Once you’ve selected “Open,” you’ll need to choose your spreadsheet from the drop-down menu.
Once you’ve done this, Sheets will ask if you want to format the audio file as a table or chart. You do not need to answer this question; just select “OK” and wait for Google Sheets to add your MP3 file into your document.
You can add music to your Google sheet!
You can add music to your Google sheet!
To do so, you’ll need to use an MP3 file. You can download an MP3 from Amazon or SoundCloud, or else record yourself singing a song with your phone. Once it’s uploaded into Sheets, click “Insert” and select “Audio.” In the dropdown menu that appears next (see image above), select “MP3 File” and then choose which file you want.
Now that we’ve added our audio file, let’s make sure our spreadsheet looks great while we’re listening along! The best way is by changing its size: go back into Insert > Audio > Size and choose one of these options: Smaller; Medium; Larger; Bigger Still; Very Large.
You can add music to your Google sheet!
Certainly! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to play an MP3 file in Google Sheets:
Step 1: Open Google Sheets
- Go to the Google Sheets website (https://sheets.google.com) and log in to your Google account.
Step 2: Create or Open a Sheet
- Create a new sheet or open an existing sheet where you want to play the MP3 file.
Step 3: Insert an Image
- Click on the “Insert” menu at the top of the page.
- Select “Image” from the dropdown menu.
- Choose an image that you want to use as a clickable button for the MP3 file.
Step 4: Insert the MP3 File
- Click on the image you just inserted to select it.
- Click on the “Insert” menu at the top of the page again.
- Select “Link” from the dropdown menu.
- In the dialog box, click on the “Drive” tab.
- Upload the MP3 file from your computer to Google Drive by clicking on the “Upload” button.
- Once the MP3 file is uploaded, select it, and click on the “Insert” button.
Step 5: Get the MP3 File URL
- Right-click on the MP3 file you inserted in the sheet.
- Select “Get link” from the context menu.
- In the “Sharing settings” dialog box, change the access level from “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link”.
- Copy the link to the MP3 file.
Step 6: Insert a Button with Script
- Right-click on the image you inserted earlier (the clickable button).
- Select “Assign script” from the context menu.
- In the script editor that opens, paste the following code:
function playAudio() { var audioUrl = "PASTE_THE_MP3_FILE_URL_HERE"; var audio = new Audio(audioUrl); audio.play();}
- Replace “PASTE_THE_MP3_FILE_URL_HERE” with the URL of your MP3 file that you copied in the previous step.
Step 7: Save and Run the Script
- Close the script editor.
- Click on the button/image you inserted to select it.
- Reload the page to run the script.
Step 8: Play the MP3 File
- Click on the button/image in your Google Sheets to play the MP3 file.
- The audio will play within the sheet itself.
That’s it! You have now created a clickable button in Google Sheets that plays the MP3 file. Remember to ensure that the MP3 file has the appropriate sharing settings to allow anyone with the link to access and play it within the Google Sheets.
