Reinstalling Windows is not as daunting as it seems. For example, if your computer did not come with an installation disc or if you need to perform a clean install of Windows, follow these steps to reinstall Windows 10:
Use Recovery Media to Reinstall
If you have a Windows installation disk, follow these steps to reinstall Windows:
- Insert the DVD or USB flash drive into your computer’s optical drive and restart it.
- When prompted to press any key to boot from the USB device, do so. You may also be asked to select an option in order to choose between using recovery media and running other operating systems on your computer. If so, choose Recovery (if applicable) or Recovery Media Creation Tool (if applicable). Depending on which version of Windows 10 you’re using, this will bring up either Windows 10 Setup or another similar screen that lets you choose between installing an earlier version of Windows 10 or performing a clean install by clicking “Next” at this point in time.
- Click Next again until reaching an option titled “Which type of installation do you want?” Select “Custom: Install Windows only” before hitting Next once more; then click Finish
Clear the Partition
To clear the partition and start fresh, you can use the Disk Management tool. To open it, press Windows+R on your keyboard to open Run and type “diskmgmt.msc” into the box that appears.
After clicking OK in this window, you’ll see all of your drives listed under a heading called Storage. Select the drive you want to format (such as C:) and right-click it again; this time choose “Format.”
Download the Installation Files
Download the installation files from Microsoft
If you’re planning to reinstall Windows 10, download the correct version of Windows 10 for your PC. You can do this by clicking on the “Download” button at the top of this page and following the instructions in step 2: Downloading Your Copy Of Windows 10.
You can also download all three installation files–the Home Edition (32-bit or 64-bit), Pro Edition (32-bit or 64-bit) and Education Edition (32-bit)–from a USB drive or CD/DVD if needed.
Create a New Partition
- Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
- In Windows 10, choose System and Security > Administrative Tools > Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions from the left menu or search for “Disk Management” in Cortana’s search field. In Windows 7 or 8, choose Start > Computer (or My Computer), right-click your C: drive, then select Manage from the drop-down menu that appears; this will open up a new window with several tabs at the top called Disk Management where you can perform all sorts of disk related tasks including creating new partitions on your hard disk drive(s).
Format the Partition
To format the partition, you can use the Disk Management tool. To open it, press Windows Key + X and click on Disk Management in the Quick Access Menu.
Alternatively, you can also use Command Prompt to format a drive or partition if you prefer to do so. To access Command Prompt in Windows 10 and earlier versions of Windows operating systems like Windows 8 or 7, simply press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at once while logged into your account (the action will launch Task Manager). Then click File > Run new task option under Action Center section on left pane and type “cmd” without quotes in Run dialog box which appears next time when you press Enter key on keyboard or click OK button below it after typing “cmd” text into Open field below Open File Location button at bottom left corner of Task Manager window as shown below:
Once launched successfully then type following command lines one by one into black screen with green text shown above until reaching end point sign (#):
Install Windows 10
The installation will take some time, so you can have a cup of tea while it’s installing. You’ll be prompted to enter your product key and name and email address, then sign in with a Microsoft account.

Reinstalling Windows is not as daunting as it seems. In fact, you can do it yourself and save money in the process.
To begin, make sure your computer is backed up with all of your files and data saved on an external hard drive or cloud service like Dropbox. Then follow these steps:
